Elon Musk has caused an uproar after backing Germany’s far-right party, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), in a major newspaper ahead of the country’s upcoming election.

German officials have condemned Musk’s op-ed, calling it a clear attempt to “influence” the federal election.

The AfD is polling strongly but the party’s candidate has no realistic chance of becoming chancellor as other parties refuse to work with the far-right party.
