We wanted to mark the recent passing of the great Oscar-winning composer Ennio Morricone; one of his best-known melodies, “Gabriel’s Oboe,” is the main theme for the 1986 film “The Mission” directed by Roland Joffé. The theme is most memorably used when the Jesuit Father Gabriel plays the oboe near a waterfall, aiming to befriend the Guaraní with music. The music from this film was also used at his funeral Mass in Rome. Morricone, who also played trumpet, composed over 400 scores for cinema and television, as well as over 100 classical works, and his arrangements were used by many influential performing artists.

Friends of the Erben Organ (FREO) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization formed in 2017 with the mission of restoring, preserving, and presenting the historic 1868 Henry Erben organ located in the Basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, corner Mott and Prince Streets, Little Italy, NYC.
