England clinched the ODI series 2–1 after defeating Sri Lanka by 53 runs in the third and decisive ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The win was powered by magnificent centuries from Joe Root and captain Harry Brook, who completely dominated the Sri Lankan bowling attack.

Batting first, England posted a massive 357/3 in 50 overs. Harry Brook played a sensational unbeaten knock of 136 off 66 balls, smashing 11 fours and 9 sixes. At the other end, Joe Root anchored the innings with a classy 111 off 108 balls*, bringing up his 20th ODI century. The duo stitched together a match-winning 191-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Chasing a challenging target of 358, Sri Lanka showed early intent with Pathum Nissanka’s rapid half-century. However, regular wickets kept them under pressure. Pavan Rathnayake scored a fighting 121 off 115 balls, registering his maiden ODI century, but lacked support from the other end as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 304 in 46.4 overs.

England’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance in the death overs. Jamie Overton, Will Jacks, Adil Rashid and Liam Dawson picked up two wickets each, sealing a convincing victory for the visitors.

With this defeat, Sri Lanka lost a home ODI series for the first time since 2021, ending their impressive run of 12 unbeaten home ODI series. England’s all-round display ensured a memorable series triumph in Colombo.
