Описание к видео 3 Lessons from Podcast Hosts for Presentations

I'm giving you 3 lessons I learned from podcast hosts for presentations on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Visit https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/ to attend one of my FREE LIVE online trainings.

1. The best quality shows stem from incredible amounts of research. (1:15)

The top 1% podcast hosts in the world do a crazy amount of studying on the people they interview to then guide the conversation in a smooth way and to ask really cool and unique questions. A good example I can give is the host of Hot Ones on YouTube, Sean Evans – he’s one of the best interviewers I’ve ever seen. When he interviewed Gary Vaynerchuk as an example, instead of asking him the usual questions, he gave him 15$ of play money and made him choose the celebrities who he’d spend his money on for the best marketing reach, it was super interesting to see his brain get to work and it shows us as the audience watching the power of thoughtful, specific questions to a guest that comes on to add value.

The lesson here and why this is so important to presentations is that the more you learn to obsess over your core customer base, the easier it is for you to speak to them in a way that they understand and want to buy into you. In the same way these interviewers spend a lot of time researching guests, I do the same thing with people who want public speaking content on this channel. What do they dream about? What do they aspire to be?

2. Speak to your audience as if you already know them. (3:47)

World class podcast hosts create an amazing space for their guests to be who they authentically want to be. It’s interesting when you think about how comfortable people like Joe Rogan make their guests feel that even someone as busy as Elon Musk came on twice on the show for hours just to talk, that’s the power of building a strong, authentic relationship with people you barely know and the best hosts out there can do this seamlessly.

The lesson here is to find ways to adapt your energy levels to other people. If you want the best insights on how to get better and make your ideas get shared faster, you’ll need feedback from very smart people and those individuals won’t make time for people that they don’t like, pretty simple how the world works.

That’s why the journey to us getting better at conversations begins with speaking to people that are the easiest to talk to; figure who you are and what your interests are and go meet others like you so even if you make mistakes in those social settings

3. The environment/experience is just as important as the performance. (5:22)

Lewis Howes, the host of the School of Greatness podcast, in many interviews talks about why he makes his guest sit in front of him directly. He does this to keep the eye contact so that the conversation gets deep really fast. You can tell just from this piece of advice that he spends a lot of time thinking about not just the guest and the conversation, but also the environment he’s setting and all the great hosts do the same thing for the people who come on the show.

When you think about presentations, focus on why people like Elon Musk, despite his not so world class communication skills, is raved and adored anyways when he speaks. The reason is because of the experience of him being there; if a celebrity speaks, but isn’t the best communicator, you don’t really mind because the experience that person being there is more than enough to implement their ideas which is the point I’m trying to make.

The experience that you give your audience before you even come on, this could be an established YouTube channel or some credential that people can look at before you actually present increases the excitement people have when you eventually give your talk, and that’s also true after you’re finished, when you spend time talking and answering questions to people who come up to you after the speech, that’s what being a great speaker means; providing an awesome environment and performance for people to adore and remember for their lives, so create that experience for those who have the privilege of hearing your ideas in-person.
