Create a Gingham Check Pattern in Illustrator - Making Seamless Tiling Patterns
Learn to create a gingham check pattern in Illustrator CS6 & CC and Illustrator 2014.You will see how to create the starting shape which is a simple rectangle, how to duplicate it and place it in line with the first shape. See how to use the Appearance panel to change the opacity of both shapes so you get the classic four square pattern tile. Once the starting pattern tile is made, see how to use the Pattern maker in Illustrator to create a pattern swatch for it using the Grid style pattern. The Pattern make tool was new in Illustrator CS6 and it is an easy pattern generator for Illustrator CS6 & CC and Illustrator CC 2014. Once the seamless repeating pattern swatch is complete you will also see how to fill a shape with your pattern and how to scale the pattern inside the shape. These patterns are seamless repeating tiling patterns that you can use for fabric design (think spoonflower) or for web backgrounds as well as backgrounds and fills for your own projects.
