Steve Kishaba Sombrero is the President and Principal Owner of Cushman & Wakefield ChaneyBrooks, Hawaii’s oldest and largest, locally owned real estate brokerage and management company. Steve is also the founder and owner of Aloha Beer Company, a family enterprise he established with his wife, Takako. The successful entrepreneur is also a published author. His book “What Day Are You?” is listed as Amazon’s Best New Release in 2023.

Born in Misato, Okinawa, and raised in Guam, Steve is an islander, who embraces a deep sense of gratitude for his journey of resilience and optimism in the Okinawan spirit of “Nankurunaisa.”

Key moments from Sombrero’s video describe having to make life-changing decisions rooted in hope and faith to save his daughter. An innovative leader and “go to guy”, Sombrero has earned the trust and respect of so many well respected leaders within Hawaii’s thriving business community. Sombrero closes out this impactful video with a final piece of advice, urging our audience to glean “just one bit of advice” from every Legacy honoree, past, present and future, then “we are certain to become better people.”

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, perpetuate, and preserve the Okinawan culture here in Hawaii. It is a huge part of the Hawaii Okinawan community and allows its members to learn about the culture through various educators and practitioners, a central meeting place to share experiences, and a way to connect with the Okinawan government, organizations, and its people. Running an active organization and a meeting place like the Hawaii United Okinawa Center comes with a significant expense. None of it is possible without the generous donations from our members and supporters.
