Further data viz animations are provided which breakdown some of the characteristics of each perpetrator.

How are "mass shootings" calculated in this dataset? From 1982 until 2012, a mass shooting is categorized if the perpetrator kills four or more people in a single incident (not including themselves) - this definition comes from the FBI. From 2013 onwards, the US government’s fatality baseline was revised down to three - and this is reflected in the current dataset.
