野村家は、石川県金沢市の長町武家屋敷跡に残る武家屋敷。加賀藩祖である前田利家の直臣であった野村伝兵衛信貞の屋敷跡です。野村家は、馬廻衆組頭や各奉行職を歴任し十一代続いた武家。加賀藩において千二百石取りの野村家は中級武士に属しました。この野村家は、江戸時代の面影が色濃く残るこの界隈で、一般公開されている唯一の武家屋敷跡であります。
小規模ながらも優美な庭園には、様々な形の灯籠や石橋が巧みに配置され、厳かな空間を形成しています。庭内の樹齢400年以上の山桃の木は金沢市の保存樹に指定されています。母屋の縁側からの眺めは、緻密な構図が調和を生み出し、加賀文化の奥深さが感じられ、濡れ縁にせまる曲水や落水の立体的な水の流れが優雅な時を演出しています。
この見事な庭園は2003年、米国の庭園専門誌「ジャーナル・オブ・ジャパニーズ・ガーデン」で日本庭園ランキング3位に選ばれました。また、フランスのミシュラン社が2009年に発行した「ミシュラングリーンガイド」の日本版で２つ星を獲得するなど、豪華な庭園は国内外から高く評価を得ています。
この野村家は、金沢観光の折は、訪れるべき名所の一つです。旅の疲れを束の間癒してくれる、そんな庭園です。

The Nomura family is a samurai residence that remains on the site of the Nagamachi samurai residence in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. It is the former residence of Nomura Denbei Nobusada, who was a direct vassal of Maeda Toshiie, the founder of the Kaga domain. The Nomura family is a samurai family who has held various magistrate positions and has continued for eleven generations. The Nomura family, which had 1,200 koku in the Kaga domain, belonged to the middle class of samurai. The Nomura family is the only samurai residence that is open to the public in this neighborhood, which still retains a strong sense of the Edo period.
In the small but elegant garden, various shaped lanterns and stone bridges are skillfully placed to form a solemn space. The mountain peach tree, which is over 400 years old, has been designated as a preserved tree by Kanazawa City. The view from the porch of the main house is a harmonious combination of elaborate compositions, showing the depth of Kaga culture. The three-dimensional flow of water in the form of curved water and falling water on the wet edge creates an elegant atmosphere.
In 2003, this magnificent garden was selected as the third best Japanese garden by the Journal of Japanese Gardens, an American garden magazine. It was also awarded two stars in the Japanese edition of the Michelin Green Guide published by the French company Michelin in 2009, and the gorgeous garden is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad.
The Nomura Residence is one of the best places to visit when sightseeing in Kanazawa. It is the kind of garden that can temporarily soothe the fatigue of travel.
