Maw of Souls is a 5-man dungeon coming to World of Warcraft with Legion on August 30th, 2016. Maw of Souls will be available on Normal, Heroic, Mythic and Challenge Mode difficulties. The footage in this video is of Maw of Souls on Normal Difficulty as seen in the Legion Alpha, and should cover the basic information you need to excel at this dungeon at launch. There may be additional abilities on higher difficulties, and Maw of Souls may still undergo changes before Legion's launch date.
In the Maw of Souls, you'll fight Ymiron, Harbaron, and Helya. . Ymiron has three main abilties to watch out for, and they're all pretty straightforward. Screams of the Dead is an AOE psychic-scream style fear, marked by a big purple ring. The fear is dispellable, but you can just run out of the ring to avoid it altogether. Winds of Northrend is a knockback, marked by a big icy wind ring. Position yourself so that if you do get knocked back, you don't get knocked off. Because both Screams of the Dead and Winds of Northrend are centered around Ymiron, ranged should stay well into range so they're not worried about them. Last, Bane summons some swirling essences of Bane that will wander around and should be avoided.
Harbaron will summon Shackled Servitors who will cast Void Snap, which you really don't want to let happen. Interrupt the Void snap and focus down the add to minimize damage from that, and it's a LOT of damage. Harbaron will also target a player and cast Fragment, which stuns them, puts a dot on them and splits their soul to summon another add. Defeating the fragment removes the dot , so nuke those down also. The last thing to watch out for is Cosmic Scythe, which he'll cast to do damage in the direction he faces. Keep an eye on him to step out of that, swap to any and all adds that are summoned and Harbaron is a very manageable fight.
Helya is the final boss of Maw of Souls, and has a two-phase fight featuring lot of tentacles. . In the first phase you'll see a Destructor Tentacle and some Grasping Tentacles, and damaging them damages the boss. The destructor tentacle must be tanked or it gets very grumpy so make sure your tank is on that. While that's going on, Piercing Tentacles will be stabbing holes in the boat which knocks back anyone there, and then does massive damage and more knockback if you're still within 8 yards after three seconds. That continues through the entire fight, so try not to get tentacle-stabbed. Taint of the Sea will get cast on random players, which is a dispellable dot that explodes for moderate damage when it's dispelled or expires. the Dot is way scarier than the explosion, so just get that off as soon as you can if you're healing. After a certain point Helya emerges and becomes attackable.but you'll still need to deal with Piercing Tentacles and Taint of the Sea. Like the Destructor Tentacle, Helya gets really pissed if nobody's tanking her. Orbs of Muck will spew on the deck, so get out of the watery circles. Helya will periodically retreat below the water and bring back her tentacles, so just keep damaging whatever's in front of you and trying not to die until the fight is over.
