060619 Hike to Haystacks from Honister Slate Mine

During a June 2019 trip to the English Lake District, my wife and I hiked from the Honister Slate Mine to the summit of Haystacks.  Along the way, we passed the disused Dubs Quarry, forded the stream at Dubs Bottom, and skirted Blackbeck Tarn and Innominate Tarn.   We descended via Scarth Gap, ending the hike at Gatesgarth Farm.

We used as our guide Alfred Wainwright's A Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.  The chapter on Haystacks is in Book 7: The Western Fells.  We used a Readers Edition published by Frances Lincoln Limited of London in 2015.  Wainwright's estate holds the copyright from 1966.

In addition, we used--and encourage all hikers to also carry--an Ordnance Survey (OS) map and compass.
