This module will explore the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) and the significance of a “paradigm shift” in mental health. The UN CRPD is an international human rights treaty aimed to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2006 and entered into force in 2008. The UN CRPD recognises that persons with disabilities, including those with mental health conditions, have the same human rights as everyone else and should be able to enjoy those rights on an equal basis with others.
