The Sasanian Empire, also known as the Sassanid Empire, emerged in 224 CE under Ardashir I after defeating the Parthians. Its capital was Ctesiphon, and it encompassed regions of modern-day Iran, Iraq, Armenia, Georgia, and beyond. Under Shapur I's reign (241–272), it expanded from Arabia to Central Asia and the Caucasus. Shapur I strengthened governance, reformed currency, and promoted Zoroastrianism. Ultimately, the empire fell to the Arab Rashidun Caliphate in 651 CE, with Yazdegerd III as its last ruler.

We were on our way to Shiraz from Isfahan when we made a stop and stumbled upon an ancient Sasanian city in Iran, dating back 2000 years.
