North Sikkim Roads are Open. Locals are being allowed to enter both Lachen and Lachung.

In a major boost for tourism in North Sikkim, the road to Lachen has officially reopened today, allowing travelers to once again access this popular destination after months of roadblocks since June 2024. Following this, the road to Lachung is scheduled to reopen on November 11, 2024, as the final construction phase on the Toong Naga Road nears completion.

Key Highlights:
Lachen Now Open: Tourists can now visit Lachen starting today. Permits have been resumed, enabling exploration of key attractions such as Gurudongmar Lake and the quaint village settings.
Lachung Reopening Soon: The road to Lachung will be accessible from November 11, following comprehensive safety checks. This will restore full connectivity to the northern regions, making it possible for visitors to explore sights like Yumthang Valley and the surrounding snow-covered landscapes.
Positive Impact on Tourism:
The phased reopening, starting with Lachen and soon followed by Lachung, is expected to significantly boost tourism in North Sikkim. Travelers can look forward to enjoying the winter season’s unique offerings, from snow-covered valleys to the region’s vibrant cultural experiences.

1. MANGAN TO GANGTOK VIA RAKDUNG-TINTEK ROAD IS CLEAR.
2. MANGAN TO GANGTOK VIA PHODONG ROAD IS CLEAR FOR LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY.
3. MANGAN- CHUNGTHANG VIA TOONG NAGA ROUTE IS BLOCKED.
4. CHUNGTHANG TO DIKCHU ROAD VIA PHIDANG - SANGKALANG - SHIPGYER ROUTE IS OPEN BUT SUBJECT TO TIMINGS:-
I) CHUNGTHANG TO DIKCHU (DOWNWARDS) - 0500 HRS TO 0800 HRS.
II) DIKCHU- CHUNGTHANG (UPWARDS) - 1630 HRS TO 2200 HRS
III) VEHICLES ON EMERGENCY DUTY ARE EXEMPTED FROM THE RESTRICTIONS.
*NOTE-IT IS ADVISED TO ALL THE ROAD USERS TO USE 4*4 VEHICLES IN THE ABOVE ROUTE*.
5. CHUNGTHANG TO LACHEN ROAD OPEN SUBJECT TO TIMING:-
I. CHUNGTHANG TO LACHEN (UPWARD) FROM 06:00 AM TO 08:00 AM & 04:00 PM TO 05:30 PM.
II. LACHEN TO CHUNGTHANG (DOWNWARD) FROM 08:00 AM TO 10:00 AM & 05:30 PM TO 07:00 PM.
6. LACHEN TO THANGU: OPEN .
7. THANGU -GURUDONGMAR OPEN.
8. CHUNGTHANG TO LACHUNG CLEAR.
9. LACHUNG TO YUMTHANG ROAD CLEAR.
10. MANGAN TO SINGTAM ROAD CLEAR FOR LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY AT MARCHAK.
