The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway would front all of their serviceable steam locomotives for their ‘Railway 200 - Steam & Diesel Gala’, taking place over the weekend of May 10th-11th.

5 members of the RH&DR steam fleet would be in action over the event, bolstered by resident diesel No12 “J.B. Snell”. Operating alongside the home-fleet would two visiting locomotives from the Kirlees Light Railway at Whistlestop Valley, with “Katie” and “Badger” making the journey to the Kent coast. The event showcased some of the RH&DR's much adored theatrics, with double-headed services making frequent appearances throughout the weekend, along with some non-stop runs. On the Saturday evening, a multi-headed service featuring both visiting locomotives and two from the RH&DR stable would travel from Hythe to New Romney, while the conclusion of the weekend would see a spectacular multi-header staged with all 7 steam locomotives, hauling a consist of 18 carriages on a return trip from New Romney to Dungeness and back. “Katie” and “Badger” would lead, with the RH&DR steam fleet following line-astern in numerical order.

Although the RH&DR is famed for opening to the public in 1927, No1 “Green Goddess” and No2 “Northern Chief” were both completed two years prior. Their construction had been ordered by Count Louis Zborowski in 1924, shortly before his untimely death during the Monza Grand Prix on the 19th of October 1924. The pair were completed in 1925, before the site of the RH&DR had even been chosen. As such, the pair were placed in storage, with No1 leaving shortly after for running in and testing on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. 2025 therefore marks their respective centenaries, with the occasion being celebrated during the event with appropriate headboards adorning the locomotives.
