The Majeed Brigade of the Balochistan Liberation Army, a banned militant group based in Afghanistan, has claimed responsibility for the heavy attack that was marked by intense gunfire and multiple explosions.

As per the Balochistan Post, the Majeed Brigade claimed in an email to journalists that its fighters had entered the airbase.

According to Pakistan's Dawn newspaper the attack on Monday night came after a series of explosions and firing in the city, which, according to local residents, began at about 10 pm and continued for several hours.

A high-ranking official told the newspaper that the attackers "came from three sides of the airport boundary, but security forces responded immediately and foiled their attempt to infiltrate the premises".

Dawn newspaper also said that "six militants were killed outside the Turbat airport boundary, ensuring the safety of the base".

Following the attack, the District Health Officer of Kech has imposed an emergency at the Teaching Hospital in Turbat. All medical staff, including doctors, have been ordered to report immediately to manage the anticipated casualties from the assault.

Meanwhile, The Pakistan Army is yet to make an official statement on the attack.
