"We Draw Conclusions" - I Can Do That, Mechanical Artists, & Gen Z on the Future (Episode 5)

Описание к видео "We Draw Conclusions" - I Can Do That, Mechanical Artists, & Gen Z on the Future (Episode 5)

Brian and Emi delve into another deep conversation about the meaning of art and the meaning of life––particularly for the current world state and generation––for their fifth installment of "We Draw Conclusions." Emi starts off by dissecting the common comment "I can do that" and where in terms of importance in understanding and appreciating art should technical skill be upheld. Using exemplary pieces from Jackson Pollock and Pablo Picasso, the artist and the engineer attempt to decide whether or not the skill level of an artist should make an art piece be considered "better" or more valuable in terms of the concept and context behind it, and how that can damage the relationship between an artist and their audiences.

Brian then starts a discussion on a YouTube video he saw of a man who built a robot to recreate a piece of art. He asks his daughter and fellow audiences to ponder whether this engineer is an artist, whether the robot is an artist, and even if the final art product can be considered art. And as they veer towards the nihilistic perspective on AI artists, Brian and Emi then finish off the episode with a deep dive into the things that Gen Zers actually think about and prioritize in their lives––as compared to other generations––and how the current social/political culture affects that thought process.

Hope you enjoy another deep conversation with your favorite father-daughter duo. Thank you, and happy listening!
