Practicing the Prayer of Examen

Описание к видео Practicing the Prayer of Examen

Practicing the Prayer of Examen is an adapted version of the Daily Examen from ancient Church Father Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Roman Catholic order, the Jesuits. By no means is this meant to be an exact replica of the original Daily Examen laid out in Ignatius’ “Spiritual Exercises,” published in 1548.

The Prayer of Examen is a wonderful way to be still in the presence of God while reflecting and remembering how God was present in our past day. The practice helps Christians be more attentive to the Holy Spirit so that we can live with greater awareness and cooperation each day with God. The Daily Examen helps us slow down, be still and open ourselves up to God. It can also bring peace and calm from anxiety, worry, intrusive thoughts, and the frequent state of panic that so many of us live in. "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." - 2 Corinthians 13:14.

Video Script:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23

Take a minute to be still and silent before God. As you sit in silence and breathe in, breathe as if you’re breathing in the breath, life, and love of God. As you breathe out, breathe as if you’re releasing your fears, worries, and anxiety.

Take time now to reflect over the past day. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you remember the big and small moments.

Consider the following questions as you reflect over the past 24 hours:
When were you most drawn to God?

When were you most aware of God’s presence?

Did you feel nudged or prompted by God at any point today? If so, how did you respond?

What have been some of the prominent feelings you’ve felt today? Joy? Anger? Sadness? Compassion?

What might God be saying to you through your feelings?

When did you feel best able to give and receive love?

When did you feel least able to give and receive love?

What might God be speaking to you right now in this moment?

Take time now to give God thanks, confess your sins and ask him for guidance as you move forward from this time.
