The Atari Punk Console Kit from Rakit Kits is a simple little kit based around an NE556 dual timer ic. it is designed to produce a synth sound very similar to those 8 bit consoles of the time, primarily those old Atari games machines playing the classics such as Space Invaders, Asteroids, Tank Battle and all the other highlights of the time. It reminded me so much of blistered thumbs and the sore web between your thumb and forefinger from those almost rigid joysticks.

As far as kits go, its very simple to assemble, child friendly, easy to solder and generally something you can build on the dining room table with younger children. It runs from a single 9v battery so there are no dangerous voltages involved, even if you lick the top of the battery like we all used to as kids. Children will enjoy the noise it makes, having the ability to annoy parents for hours until the battery runs out.
