To be considered for a video, a band must have either released one full length album,
OR a band must have a review on Metal Archives.

PRIMARY GENRE: I try to assign a primary genre to every band which is the first genre listed on Metal Archives. Otherwise there is too much crossover of bands between videos. I accept "Technical", "Progressive", and "Melodic" bands in all genres but "Symphonic", "Atmospheric" and "Avant-Garde" bands are not included (maybe their own genre one day). I include bands when 'later', 'mid', 'early' as this indicates they have changed genres. So bands can and do appear in multiple videos/genres but it is reasonably rare.

eg. A band listed as Black/Speed/Thrash would only appear in a Black Metal vid.

I include Hardcore/Punk/Crossover/Metalcore bands in THRASH METAL if they did not start before genuine thrash bands in their region (and are on Metal Archives of course). "Blackened" bands are included in BLACK METAL. "Hard Rock" and "NWOBHM" bands are included in HEAVY METAL as well as Guns N' Roses, Kiss and Body Count even though they aren't on Metal Archives (because I can!)

It is not possible to include every band from a country/region (some exceptions exist). The selection algorithm picks all of the 'first generation' bands and then ranks and selects bands based from their number of reviews, average review score and number of releases. Bands are ranked and compared against the other bands in their country or displayed region. The algorithm favours popular bands with more positive reviews (relative to the bands in its region).

There are over 170,000 bands on Metal Archives I had to extract, process, group, rank and sort to make these videos. This is a passion project that has taken me 6 months to put together. If I made a mistake somewhere or missed a band, please be kind!
