How to tune drums fast with used heads - tuning toms for metal, punk, hardcore, rock

Описание к видео How to tune drums fast with used heads - tuning toms for metal, punk, hardcore, rock

In this video I show you how I quickly tune toms for heavy styles of music using used heads.

At gigs we are often in less than ideal conditions in a noisy environment so it’s good to know how to tune drums fast so you can get the kit you’re playing sounding as good as possible, whether that’s your own or a shared or rented kit.

I use the drum key to tap around the edge of the heads to get the pitch next to the tuning rods as close to one another as possible. Not everyone likes using a drum key for this, this is the way I’ve done it for years and it works well for me.

I usually use Remo Emperor clear heads on top, and Remo Ambassador clear on bottom.

The main 3 things I aim for when I’m tuning drums for heavy styles of music are:

The pitch of both heads is not too high - the heads are not too tight
Both heads are roughly the same pitch - bottom head slightly higher in some cases
Each head is in tune with itself - the pitch when tapping next to each tension rod is pretty much the same all around the drum

My drums are Pearl Reference in Granite Sparkle and the tom using in this video is a 12"x9" rack tom.
