Описание к видео Winter Wednesdays 2022 : Climate Change Panel w/ Matthew Vaughan, Aaron Marcus, and Indra Acharya

Climate change is a multi-faceted issue that requires a diversity of approaches to address. It impacts our natural environment, our relationships with the land, and our relationships with each other. This panel invited climate change professionals from different backgrounds–advocating for equity in climate change policy, studying plant and ecosystem responses, and understanding the changing landscape of the Lake Champlain Basin–to get together and share some of their work.

It is important to understand both the ecological and social impacts of climate change, and how they are interrelated. We talked about changing ice patterns on Lake Champlain, different plant responses to temperature and flooding changes, indigenous perspectives on climate, and how marginalized communities need to be prioritized in climate change policy. The concepts of resistance, adaptation, and resiliency apply to infrastructure, ecological communities, and social communities alike

Matthew Vaughan (he/him) is the Chief Scientist at the Lake Champlain Basin Program. His research focuses on the influence of land use and land cover on water quality and biogeochemical processes.

Aaron Marcus (they/them) served for more than a decade as Assistant Botanist with the VT Department of Fish & Wildlife, and their work centers on Vermont's rare and endangered plants and serving on VT Agency of Natural Resources' DEI Committee

Indra Acharya (he/him) is an Essex Junction resident involved in various advocacy and policy-based projects. He's run several statewide projects, including Covid Equity Fund for undocumented Vermonters, Environmental Justice Advocacy and Outreach among Low- and Moderate-Income Vermonters through CAP Agencies, and BIPOC Outreach for Fund Vermont's Future campaign. Indra has served as a consultant on policy, advocacy, community outreach, and DEI for several local and national nonprofits and education institutions.
