"Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! In this final episode of my Kashmir and Jammu travel series, I'm wrapping up an incredible journey and heading towards Amritsar.
The video starts with a bittersweet moment as my friend drops me off in Pathankot. After a heartfelt goodbye, I hop onto a local bus, embarking on the next leg of my adventure towards the vibrant city of Amritsar.
Amritsar:
Amritsar, the spiritual and cultural heart of Punjab, is a city steeped in history and devotion. It's most famous for the magnificent Golden Temple, but it also offers a rich tapestry of experiences, from bustling markets to historical landmarks.
The Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib):
My first stop in Amritsar is the breathtaking Golden Temple, officially known as Sri Harmandir Sahib. This iconic shrine is a symbol of Sikhism's spiritual and temporal authority. Its golden facade, reflected in the serene waters of the Amrit Sarovar (Pool of Nectar), is a sight to behold.
Gold Details: The temple's exterior is adorned with approximately 750 kilograms (1,650 pounds) of pure gold. The gold plating and embellishments were largely undertaken during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 19th century. He is credited with the extensive gold plating that gives the temple its distinctive appearance.
Architectural Marvel: The temple's architecture is a blend of Hindu and Islamic styles, reflecting the inclusive spirit of Sikhism.
Langar - The World's Largest Free Kitchen:
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Golden Temple is its Langar, a community kitchen that serves free meals to thousands of visitors every day. It's considered the world's largest self-servicing kitchen, operating 24/7, 365 days a year. What's truly inspiring is that it's entirely run by dedicated volunteers, showcasing the spirit of 'Seva' (selfless service). I had the privilege of experiencing this incredible act of generosity firsthand.
Jallianwala Bagh:
From the spiritual tranquility of the Golden Temple, I moved to the somber historical site of Jallianwala Bagh. This public garden is a poignant reminder of the tragic massacre of April 13, 1919, where British troops opened fire on unarmed civilians. The bullet marks on the walls serve as a stark reminder of this dark chapter in India's history.
Attari-Wagah Border:
Next, I met up with Rakesh from Way to World travel company, and we headed towards the Attari-Wagah border. The border is approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) from Amritsar. We joined the throngs of people eager to witness the famous Beating Retreat and Change of Guards ceremony.
Attari-Wagah Border Ceremony: This daily military practice is a symbolic display of rivalry and brotherhood between India and Pakistan. The ceremony is free to attend and attracts thousands of spectators every evening.
Experience: The atmosphere was electric! The sheer energy of the crowd, the synchronized drills of the soldiers, and the overwhelming sense of patriotism were truly unforgettable. The high kicks, the loud chants, and the flag lowering ceremony were a spectacle to behold.
Return to Amritsar:
After the exhilarating border ceremony, we returned to Amritsar. But the adventure doesn't end here! Stay tuned for the next episode, where I have a special surprise in store for you.
