Tuesday 17th May 2022 marked 100 years to the day when Kenelm Lee Guinness, driving the 350 hp Sunbeam, broke the World Land Speed Record on the Brooklands Circuit. A morning talk was delivered by representatives from the National Transport Trust and the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu about the history, the design, and the restoration of the 350hp Sunbeam.

Oliver Heal, the author of Louis Coatalen: Engineering Impressario of Humber, Sunbeam, Talbot, Darracq, delved into the history of the Sunbeam Motor Company, the historical context of Kenelm Lee Guinness’ World Land Speed Record and the team involved with making this extra special car.

Andrea Bishop, Director of Collections & Engagement from The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, discussed the story of the car, what it achieved and how it has changed over time in the wider context of the National Motor Museum's collection.

Finally, Doug Hill, Chief Engineer from the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu discussed the modern-day restoration of the 350hp Sunbeam and how the team at Beaulieu worked to bring it back to life!
