THE LEVELS OF PLAY
Xing: The Land Beyond consists of four main levels, which when completed unlock ‘The Forest Garden of Zeneth’ and ‘The Steps of Akasha’, making 6 in total. Some of this content, such as Rila and Toklo within the Forest Garden were added later after the initial release, such as when it was ported to the PS4.

BEGINNING: Zeneth, which leads you to:
LEVEL 1: Iztali Point (Night/Day mechanics)
LEVEL 2: Nahele Rain (Rain/Water mechanics)
LEVEL 3: Hyaku Lake (Freeze/Unfreeeze temperature mechanics)
LEVEL 4: Desert of Naar (Wind mechanics)
FOREST GARDEN OF ZENETH: An exploration of storytelling from characters associated with the overall game.
KATHERINE - Kitty Paw Cottage (story)
SERAFINE - Novus Bay (story)
ROWLAND - The Kingdom of Dölle (story)
CASSIA - Charia Town (story)
KEONA - Natia Village (story)
ORRIN - Losgann Creek (story)
IBYCUS - Nuria (story)
ZAHARA - Tie Bedrieg (story)
RILA - Agnirok - (Story and puzzle level) Metal disc tower puzzle, Volcano/Lava puzzle
TOKLO - Ice Scape - (Story and puzzle level) Canoe trip, Ice floor/block puzzle
THE STEPS OF AKASHA - This final level incorporates all of the mechanics from levels 1-4 and delivers them in a whole new way with new challenging puzzles, culminating in the end of the game.

XING: THE LAND BEYOND
Xing: The Land Beyond was originally released on 21st September 2017 and over the next few years was made available on various platforms: Windows 7, 8 or 10 (64 Bit), Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. It was a KickStarter project.

It’s as current today (in 2022) as it was when released, and more than stands up against many games released since.

Was this the game that ‘got away’? It should have been more successful, but the developers admit that sales weren’t as good as they hoped. Due in part to a saturated Steam market at the time of release and taking two years from KickStarter to original release.

The game runs the risk of disappearing in its VR version as headsets get updated over time. It is frustrating that it never got an Oculus2 version, and the PlayStation VR version will get superseded by PSVR2 in early 2023 (which won’t run original PSVR1 games).

Many hope it may get an update to run on Sony’s new PSVR2 system due for release in early 2023. To experience it on PSVR2 with the huge upgrade in visual quality would be, well … AMAZING!

Maybe this is what it needs … a ‘reboot’, making countless new users aware of its existence.
