Morocco Desert Raid 25. Day 9. Two Gorge-ous day! We left the Sahara on a desert road, freshly surfaced with barrels of surface dressing for about 3km! Heading north through the town of Rissini. During our stay in Chefchaouen, an English couple told us about the a crater rock formation which was the baddies lair in the James Bond film Spectre. It happened to be on route, so a mile or so of off roading was in order! It was bumpy going but worth the ride out to this giant rock formation with an old wall surrounding the entrance. Turns out it was also used as a backdrop in The Mummy? Back on the road towards Todra Gorge. Coach loads of tourist comes to visit this narrow gorge with a small river running beside the low road. The coaches then turn around after heading through the gorge to head back down as the road continues winding its way through gorgeous scenery. At the top there is a huge dam and reservoir and the road really opens up. We plateaued out at around 2000m passing small settlements and nomadic tents in the middle of nowhere with herds of goats. Men, women and children came out and smiled and waved as we went past. This route is completely off the beaten track and very few tourist or motorcycle groups come this way as the road can be a little treacherous. We found just how treacherous it was after heading through Agoudal with its completely unmade roads through this busy little town. At around 2900m above sea level we then headed down the Dades valley. My tyre pressure monitoring system was playing havoc with the change in altitude advising that I had low pressure on my front tire only! The new road is absolutely fantastic fast wide sweeping turns with no security barriers or walls anywhere. Sheer drops straight down into the valley below with no room for error. And every now and then there will be a stretch of pea shingle just to keep you on your toes! Word to the wise. The only fuel available up here is from an open oil drum, decanted by old milk jugs. Through village after village again with no other foreigners insight until we got to the famous Dades Gorge, a series of tight switchbacks, but you can’t really appreciate while riding down as you can’t see around any corners. At the bottom was our hotel for the evening who welcomed us like long lost family. A superb home cooked dinner of chicken tagine was in order.
