I like to research new environments, new sonic realms.” In this statement, Italian producer Pyramidal Decode, the focus of this new episode of DYSTOPIA, sums up not only his personal musical methodology but also captures the essence of what techno is: not music but the sculpting of abstract sonic impulses. In this episode, we explore firstly how the intersection of the abstract core of techno with the overt expressivity of Latin cultures has created a powerful techno variant that is now dominant in the global scene. At the apex of this creative movement is Pyramidal Decode, whose own productions embody a wildly experimental, mesmerising, yet utterly concrete, manifestation of what techno can be. He shares with us the background to his unique artist name, his motivations to make techno, the reasons behind his prolific creative output, as well as his newfound position as owner of his new record label PHYR.
