Yoga and gymnastics both love handstand (and so do I!). But there are a number of differences in the two different types of handstands.

Look at my gaze (in yoga terms: drishti).

When you are doing gymnastics, you drop the gaze to align the neck with the spine because gymnastics is primarily an aesthetic practice. A straight/vertical line is prettier than...

In yoga, our drishti (our, focal point or gaze) is forward. Why? Because this shift in the gaze facilitates transitions into other inversions and arm balances. A lot of yoga practitioners today--especially on social media--drop the gaze like gymnasts, trying to find the perfectly plumb vertical line. While a nice handstand challenge (and I even encourage implementing it into your practice), the dropped gaze is neither classical to yoga nor conducive to vinyasa flow transitions.
