Mastering Fundamentals

Thoughts about mastering #fundamentals, in #music or anything else. I came up on a problem today in #audio editing for my #samplelibrary that required a solution I didn’t learn in school and the reason I figure it out was because I’m well mastered the fundamentals well enough to get creative when issues that are foreign to me pop up. I also should have included this quote in the video but I love it. It’s from Picasso, “Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist.”

What instrument (or anything in any field) have you practiced enough to master the fundamentals, so much so that you could almost do it in your sleep? Let me know in the comments.
