Even though the Chiefs took one on the chin in that Super Bowl…they’re still going to be the team everyone is gunning for in the AFC next year – clearly. And there’s been something of a running theme this week that the Eagles exposed something of a formula when it comes to taking them out. Cris Collinsworth summed it up best on Tuesday

That’s obviously wayyy easier said than done…otherwise we’d see other teams having this kind of success against KC…but this all got me thinking about who actually can kind of follow that formula and give the Chiefs problems next year.

And there are those obvious AFC contenders that battle them every year…the Bills, the Ravens, etc. But one team that I’m going to be keeping a really close eye on this offseason that I think can make that jump into that class is Denver.

I mean, you talk about the ability to get pressure with 4 and hold up in coverage…a team that has the Defensive Player of the Year in the secondary, and a DPOY finalist up front in Nick Bonitto certainly fits that mold. And they finally have a little money to play with this offseason now that Russell is working his way off the books…if they go out and land a Myles Garrett…this top 5 defense might jump up to top 2. And they could even go after Deebo to fit that “Joker” role Coach Payton is searching for. He had a lot of good things to say about them on his Cleats and Convos podcast the other day. But whether it’s in the trade market, free agency, or the draft, I think we’re going to see some big swings as they try to go all-in for Bo while he’s on his rookie deal, and help him take things to another level.

They’ve made things really tough on KC over the last 2 years as it is…but I truly think they’re one good offseason away from pushing for that division and into AFC contention. These next 2 and a half months are going to be so critical for them. I know it’s still liiiitle early to be talking about all of this stuff…but I’ve just been thinking about it all and wanted to get that out there.
