I Tried “The Best” FPV Motor According To Science

Описание к видео I Tried “The Best” FPV Motor According To Science

Chris Rosser's new AOS Supernova 2207 motors.

Chris used a scientific approach, testing over 50 FPV motors and noticing significant variations in their performance. To address this, he adapted a tool from MIT University to simulate electric car motors for FPV drones. After calibrating the tool with the 50 motors, Chris ran an extensive 20,000 tests to find the most optimal design, resulting in the development of the AOS Supernova 2207 motor, which outperformed others in terms of thrust, torque, and efficiency.

So, what sets these motors apart? Unlike most motors that use thinner flux rings and thicker magnets, Chris found that using a thicker flux ring and thinner magnets actually produced better results. Additionally, he incorporated a hollow stator to reduce weight and improve heat dissipation. These innovative design choices have resulted in scientifically superior performance for the Supernova motors compared to normal FPV motors.

To determine if these motors fly better than normal ones, we need to look at their specifications. The measurements suggest that they are closer to a 2308 motor in terms of size, which could contribute to their enhanced performance. Moreover, the higher KV (1980) of the Supernovas means more power and faster spinning. However, other motors with higher KVs are also available, so this alone doesn't make them unique.

While bench testing and technical analysis demonstrate that the Supernovas are superior, the question remains: can the average pilot actually perceive the difference? Cognitive biases, such as selection bias, information bias, and anchoring bias, can influence our perception. Despite initial skepticism, many pilots trust the science and engineering behind these motors, firmly believing that they improve their quad's flight performance.

According to Chris Rosser, the Supernovas offer 18% more thrust, 4.6% more efficiency, and 33% more torque compared to an average 2207 motor. However, it is important to note that these figures may vary based on individual perspectives and interpretations of the data. At $29, these motors are not cheap, and it is unlikely that most pilots would notice a significant difference in their flying experience. That said, for those seeking the pinnacle of performance, the science and engineering behind the AOS Supernova motors may be worth considering.

Even when comparing the AOS Supernovas to the more affordable T-Motor Velox V3, which costs $15 and offers 1950KV variants, the average pilot will likely have a similar real-world flight experience. Choosing the T-Motor will save you $60, which can be quite significant.

However, it is essential to understand that purchasing new motors alone will not necessarily improve your flight performance if your build is not clean and well-designed.
