Jackson Roloffs Leg Surgery Explained

Zach and Tori Roloff's son Jackson underwent leg surgery on Little People, Big World, and TLC fans are curious about the procedure. The 5-year-old was born with achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism that causes little people to have bowed legs due to their shorter stature. For a while, Zach and Tori had noticed Jackson's legs were curved outward and had been consulting with doctors to keep an eye on his condition.


The LPBW couple finally decided in November to have Jackson have a less invasive surgery to treat the bowing in his legs. This is known as guided plate growth surgery, or hemiepiphysiodesis. The NYU Langone Health website goes into great detail about Jackson's surgery. It also states that there is no treatment or prevention for the condition. However, the procedure Jackson underwent can help when there are spinal problems.
