Climate Change Impact: ActionAid Nigeria Honours Climate Champions

ActionAid Nigeria has honored five climate change advocates whose works over the years have impacted positively on communities and the lives of women and girls who struggle to make ends meet.

The ceremony was held in Abuja at a National roundtable on the theme: "Loss and Damage Impact on women in fragile and conflict affected states".

In his opening remark, ActionAid Nigeria's Country Director, Andrew Mamedu reminded guest on the impact of climate change on women and the girl child who unfortunately forms the most vulnerable groups in the society.

Mamedu says the essence of the award of recognition that ActionAid Nigeria is embarking on today marks a critical journey to elevate the voices and contributions of women in climate action, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected states.

He says the champions award is not just a recognition for the awardees but a celebration of the remarkable contributions made by women, individuals and organisations in the realm of climate action.

In his research on the climate change as its impact on women and girls, David Habba, a manager with ActionAid observed that many of the victims are clamoring for PEACE as against the provision of food, shelter or provisions that can ameliorate their sufferings

The highlight of the event was the tale of woes and sufferings experienced by victims particularly the experience of Mimi Kivi a resident of Guma in Benue state who lost everything including losing her 14 years old daughter to rape.

Five persons were honoured for their good works on as climate change advocates.
