Just when it seemed as if things between India and the United States were on the path to some recovery - after Trump Dialed Modi for his birthday and trade talks on tariffs resumed- came another shocker from the Trump administration- the announcement of a 100,000 K dollar application fee for all new H1b applicants. 70% of all beneficiaries of this visa last year were Indians. The White House has since clarified that this will be a one time fee and not applicable to old/present H1B Visa holders.

But as Derek Grossman, Professor at the University of Southern California says, "this is an anti-India move.. either India is not a priority for Trump or he hopes to use it as leverage in the trade talks". Barkha Dutt speaks to him about India-US relations in the light of the the latest crisis as well as the other geo political trends of the week, including a military pact between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
