According to research cited by William Gumede and Daily Investor, just 47 politically connected individuals became multi-billionaires through mining BEE deals — while the country lost over half a million jobs. Experts like Peter Major say that government mismanagement and insider enrichment have left our natural resources underdeveloped for more than a decade.

From gold to platinum, coal to manganese, the story is the same: stagnation, decay, and political protectionism. Meanwhile, ordinary South Africans face rising unemployment and declining hope.

This isn’t just about mining — it’s about accountability. When President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister Gwede Mantashe are named as key figures in this collapse, it’s time for South Africans to ask: who really benefits from BEE?
