Work composed during 2009 for the NZSM Orchestra as part of the David Farquhar Composition Award, performed at St Andrews on the Terrace recorded by RadioNZ

Programme note:
The idea and imagery inspiring this work is that of a shiny ball or sphere appearing and slowly rotating in changing light. Technically it is always there and it is always the same ball and this is reflected in the fixed sound world of this piece, but the altering light give you a slightly different impression of the sphere each time it changes. As it continues to turn you start to notice all the imperfections and curiosities of a sphere, its perfect symmetry but also its instability when unsupported and the fact that you can only ever see one half of it at any time, no matter which angle you look at it from.

One day i hope to create this imagery to go with the work as a multimedia experience, but for now, here is a great photo was plenty of detail to explore (excusing pixelation due video processing)
