The Nur district in eastern Mosul is the latest neighborhood to be liberated from ISIS by Iraqi forces.

The Iraqi army and counter-terrorism forces wrested control of the district from ISIS militants. They are building berms to stop ISIS suicide car bombs.

Beyond the berms is the ISIS-held Musana district, which Iraqi forces say they want to liberate next.

Destroyed buildings and homes testify to the fierceness of the fight to liberate Nur district. The bodies of dead militants, who were either killed in firefights with soldiers or torn apart in airstrikes by Iraqi or coalition warplanes, still lie scattered in the streets, showing that the fighting was very recent.
