PEUGEOT 308 SW - do we still need diesel?

This is Peugeot 308 SW. SW stands for Sport Wagon - a station wagon/estate. I am testing the Peugeot 308 SW with a diesel engine. The 308 SW comes in a range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines. Does this 2L diesel engine have a place in today's electric-obsessed society?
