Chittoor district is gripped by a health scare as cases of a new type of fever, identified as Scrub Typhus, are rapidly rising, causing alarm as a large number of patients are being hospitalized. Doctors have identified the cause as a mite-like insect, typically found in hilly regions but now spreading to all areas, leading to the surge in cases.

Symptoms & Danger: A bite from this mite leaves a black mark (Eschar) and causes fever for up to seven days. Symptoms mimic Dengue, including severe muscle pain, headaches, and digestive issues. While mild cases can be treated with antibiotics, severe cases may require ICU care. Doctors warn that delayed treatment can lead to organ failure and even coma, posing a greater risk to children. The mite thrives in dense bushes, gardens, and dirty, dark environments, often latching onto cattle before biting humans. The government has declared a high alert, urging citizens to maintain hygiene and promptly seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
