When Peter Quill is arrested, we can see that he has a translator in his neck, which is how he’s able to speak to different alien species. Also they get his name wrong, calling him “Space-Lord.” The stripes we see on each character’s leg here signify crimes they’ve committed. For instance, Rocket’s crimes include mercenary activity, escape from prison, arson, and public intox. Gamora has so many black stripes due to acting on behalf of Thanos, and her description shows that she is the last surviving member of the Zehoberi people, indicating that Thanos never went back to check on her planet to see if he was actually successful in saving them. We see Bereet, Star Lord’s girlfriend who stayed in his ship while he was retrieving the Orb, wearing the same shirt as Peter did as a child 26 years earlier. The holographic dog we see in the opening is played by Dr. Wesley Von Spears, a dog that belonged to James Gunn and died in 2020.
