Описание к видео Agartala Diebetic Patient Receives Successful Treatment for Chronic Pancreatitis with ERCP

Meet Mr. Tapan Varma, a 48-year-old from Agartala, Tripura, who shares his medical journey at Apollo Hospitals. For several months, he had been suffering from severe stomach pain. He consulted Dr. Jatin Yegurla, Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist, and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopist at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, where he was diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis.

In this video, Dr. Jatin Yegurla explains Chronic Pancreatitis and its treatment options. The pancreas is an organ behind the stomach that releases enzymes and insulin essential for digestion and glucose metabolism. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas and can be acute or chronic. Acute Pancreatitis involves severe inflammation over a short period, leading to serious complications. Chronic Pancreatitis, on the other hand, involves long-term inflammation, which can reduce the size of the pancreas and cause stones or strictures in the pancreatic duct.

Patients with Chronic Pancreatitis typically experience three main symptoms: pain, weight loss, and steatorrhea, which is characterised by sticky stools, difficulty passing stools, and oil droplets in the stool. Another common symptom is Diabetes, which in Chronic Pancreatitis patients, tends to be unstable, with fluctuating blood sugar levels.

Mr. Tapan Varma endured severe pain despite receiving the best medical treatment, which provided little relief. For Chronic Pancreatitis, there are three treatment options: medication, ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Procedure) to address stones blocking the duct, and surgery. During ERCP, a scope is passed into the small intestine to dilate strictures, remove stones from the duct, and place a stent to allow pancreatic juice to flow freely into the small intestine.

Dr. Jatin Yegurla performed an ERCP on Mr. Tapan, placed a Pancreatic Stent, and successfully removed the stone, bridging the stricture. Before the procedure, Mr. Tapan Varma experienced such severe pain that he couldn't even consume water or clear liquids, requiring IV Analgesics for pain management, which provided minimal relief. After the ERCP, however, he experienced significant pain relief and is now able to eat solid food without discomfort.

Mr. Tapan Varma is extremely grateful to Dr. Jatin Yegurla and the Apollo staff for their excellent care and support throughout his journey.
