In this video we head out for a quick nature walk in Northern Tallinn, to the Paljassaare peninsula for a day of nature and panoramic views of the entire city across Tallinn bay! It’s definitely a great option to see Tallinn from a different angle and visit nature within the city. It really is a hidden gem on the edge of Tallinn!

Paljassaare is a peninsula with a coastline of 6.8 km. This tiny spit of land that juts above Tallinn into the Baltic Sea is a bird watching paradise; 227 bird species have been registered there, 82 of whom are under protection in Estonia.

We enjoyed watching the birds swooping for food as we took in the amazing view from the pier (Katariina Quay) overlooking Tallinn! Then we made our way across from the pier and past Pikakari beach with it’s volleyball court, swings and changing cabins on our way over to the nature hiking trails. Pikakari beach is great if you prefer a nice quiet beach, it’s less busy than the popular beaches of Tallinn like Pirita and Stroomi.

The land itself is a collection of rocky beaches, high grasses (with raised wooden platforms that navigate you above them), shady woods, and wide dusty paths with squishy wetland dipping down on either side. There are two bird watching towers, one of which we climbed.

Our favourite part of this walk was the stunning beach area which had beautiful boulders scattered throughout the tranquil bay. We then headed back through the vegetation on the pathways and past a small bog area which by this time in the day was pretty swarming with mosquitos. So beware and carry lots of bug repellant if you visit there and walk through that part! We ended up with about a dozen bites between us despite running through that section. Still itches now!

If you’re looking for a very easy nature walk or cycle in Tallinn, this is a great option in our opinion! You can get there easily by bus from the Balti Jaam which takes you right up to the entrance of the park, you can also take a tram most of the way or just take a cab (we took a Bolt cab from Telliskivi and it cost us 3€).
