I visited Noboribetsu Jigokudani "Hell Valley", Cape Chikyu, Mt. Showa-Shinzan, Lake Toya, Silo Observatory, and Lake Shikotsu in one day.
It started with cloudy skies and it started raining at Lake Shikotsu, but the rain had stopped by the time I got back to Sapporo.
Unfortunately, it was cloudy. If it had been sunny, I would have seen a completely different and beautiful view.

Lake Toya
Lake Toya has the famous Mt. Yotei to the north, the still active Mt. Usu and Mt. Showa Shinzan to the south, and a hot spring town on its shores.
The circumference of the lake is about 43km, making it the third largest caldera lake in Japan after Lake Kussharo and Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido.
In the center of the lake, which was created by an eruption about 110,000 years ago, there are four islands called "Nakajima."
You can take a ferry to the largest of the Nakajima islands and stroll along a promenade surrounded by giant conifers.
The volcanic activity in the area has made Lake Toya one of the best hot spring spots in the area.
The Lake Toya Long-Run Fireworks Festival, held every day from late April to the end of October,
is a must-see. Large fireworks are launched over the lake and on its surface, illuminating the night sky.
You can enjoy the spectacular fireworks from the promenade around the lake, as well as from a pleasure boat.

Silo Observatory
A large panorama overlooking the sparkling blue Lake Toya and its islands.
You can see the whole Lake Toya and Mt. Usu Nakajima Island Mt. Showa-shinzan.
Lake Toya, a caldera lake tha was formed by a depression caused by a massive volcanic eruption around 110,000 years ago.
At the center of the lake is Nakajima Island, formed aroud 45,000 years ago from lava domes.
On the far right is Mt. Usu, an active volcano.

Lake Shikotsu
Formed by intense volcanic activity about 40,000 years ago, this caldera lake has a circumference of about 40.3 km and a maximum depth of 360 m, making it the second deepest in Japan.
It boasts such transparency that it has been ranked number one in Japan for 11 consecutive years in water quality rankings.
It is surrounded by magnificent nature, including Mt. Eniwa, Mt. Fuppushi, and Mt. Tarumae.
If you take the Lake Shikotsu underwater sightseeing boat (late April to early November), you can enjoy both the scenery from the lake and what's underwater, which is well worth seeing.

登別地獄谷、地球岬、昭和新山、洞爺湖、サイロ展望台、支笏湖を一日で回りました。曇り空で始まり、支笏湖では雨が降り始めましたが、札幌に戻る頃には雨は止んでいました。
晴れていたら全く違った美しい景色が見られたのに残念でした。

洞爺湖
洞爺湖は、北に有名な羊蹄山、南に今も活動中の有珠山と昭和新山があり、湖畔には温泉街があります。湖の周囲は約43kmで、北海道の屈斜路湖、支笏湖に次いで
日本で3番目に大きいカルデラ湖です。
約11万年前の噴火でできた湖の中央には、「中島」と呼ばれる4つの島があります。中島の中で一番大きい島にはフェリーで渡ることができ、巨大な針葉樹に囲まれた遊歩道を散策できます。
火山活動が盛んなことから、洞爺湖は地域屈指の温泉地となっています。
4月下旬から10月下旬まで毎日開催される「洞爺湖ロングラン花火大会」は必見です。湖上や湖面に大花火が打ち上げられ、夜空を彩ります。
湖畔の遊歩道や遊覧船からも迫力ある花火が楽しめます。

サイロ展望台
青く輝く洞爺湖と島々を望む大パノラマ。

洞爺湖は、約11万年前の火山の大噴火により陥没してできたカルデラ湖です。
湖の中央には、約4万5千年前に溶岩ドームからできた中島があります。
右奥には活火山の有珠山があります。

支笏湖
約4万年前の激しい火山活動により形成された、周囲約40.3kmのカルデラ湖、最大深度は360mで日本で2番目に深い。
水質ランキングで11年連続日本一に輝くほどの透明度を誇ります。
恵庭岳、風不死岳、樽前山など雄大な自然に囲まれています。支笏湖海中遊覧船（4月下旬～11月上旬）に乗れば、湖上からの景色と水中の景色を楽しめます。
