Hundreds of Barbadians have been turning out for a special health initiative being spearheaded by the Sandals Foundation.

Since Monday, Barbadians of all ages have been heading to the popular southern resort to get free eye checks, along with UV protected sun glasses and reading glasses.

Wednesday was no different, as CBC News understands some people gathered on the outside of the resort from as early as just after midnight to take advantage of the free eye services and other health checks.

The company working hand in hand with the Sandals Foundation is Great Shape Incorporated.

Director of the company Steven Stern tells CBC News that by Wednesday morning, they had already surpassed the one thousand mark for people seen over the past few days.

Communications Manager with Sandals Resorts, David Hinds says the initiative has already impacted some other Caribbean countries and Sandals is pleased to be able to give Barbadians the opportunity to also benefit from the free health services.

CBC News spoke to some of the people who were gathered at the resort to get their feedback, and everyone welcomed the opportunity to take advantage of the free services and eye care.
