Making school food sustainable | Celebrating Impact

Описание к видео Making school food sustainable | Celebrating Impact

In this video, take a look at Willows High School in Cardiff, a school which is making some extraordinary reforms when it comes to the food they provide for students.

Providing a convivial, pleasant eating environment for children gives them the incentive to go to the canteen, which is particularly important if it's the only hot meal they eat that day.

By implementing an 'Appetite for Life' programme of healthy school food, using better ingredients and training school dinner ladies to cook from scratch, the school has helped to raise the self-esteem of students and staff members alike.

Research to identify the good practice for this programme came from Professor Kevin Morgan and Dr Roberta Sonnino who look all along the food chain to prioritise quality, healthy food.

Professor Kevin Morgan and Dr Roberta Sonnino are winners of the #PublicPolicy category of the ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize 2013.

The ESRC Celebrating Impact Prize recognises and rewards the successes of ESRC-funded #researchers achieving outstanding economic and societal impacts.
