Learn from me so you don’t have to learn these yourself. My 2011 Jeep Wrangler JKU has the 3.8L V6 engine. It’s been leaking oil from “somewhere.” I made videos of addressing the 3 most common leak locations for this engine – one video for the two valve cover gaskets and one video for the upper oil pan gasket. This is video 2 – Upper Oil Pan Gasket. Link to video 1 – Valve Cover Gaskets – is below.

There are lots of videos out there on how to do this, so this is more of a “lessons I learned” video. Feel free to leave comments or questions. If you find this video useful, consider subscribing to see future videos more easily.

NOTE: I snapped off one of the oil pan bolts when I was installing it. Just the running torque caused it to shear: I wasn’t doing the final torquing. Thus, I highly recommend you run a M6 x 1.0 tap into all the holes to clean them out and clean off all your bolts before reinstalling – the bolts are very fragile! Also, don’t over torque!

NOTE: Make sure you don’t over torque – transmission dust cover bolts are 40 FT-lbs, oil pan bolts are 105 IN-lbs (inch-pounds!!).

Materials:
* Oil (6 qt)
* Oil Filter (may as well complete your oil change while you’re at it)
* RTV sealant (for bottom of engine block)
* Rags
* Eye and head/hair protection
* Gloves
* Cleaner (I used Brake Parts Cleaner)

Tools:
* 13mm socket (drain plug)
* 15mm socket (transmission dust cover)
* 10mm socket (oil pan bolts)
* Extensions
* in-lbs torque wrench, preferably ‘click’ type that’s settable to 105 in-lbs
* ft-lbs torque wrench, settable to 40 ft-lbs
* Regular screw driver (to open transmission line clamp)
* Gasket scraper
* M6 x 1.0 thread tap
