Born in 1960, Dr. Purnendu Roy excelled in MBBS and MS (Surgery) from JIPMER, Puducherry and received his FRCS degree from England in 1987. He worked as a Senior House Officer in William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent (England) and joined Surgical Rotation Training in South Cleveland Hospital. After the completion of FRCS, he worked as the surgical registrar in Scarborough General Hospital, Yorkshire.

After his return from England in 1992, he initiated his career at Kothari Hospital, Kolkata and served for three years. In 1995, he joined Duncan Clinic which later became Apollo Gleneagles Hospital and Clinic. He also practiced at Anandalok, a charitable hospital where he treated patients free of cost and did a high volume of laparoscopic surgeries at an economical rate up to 51 surgeries per day. On an average, Dr. Purnendu Roy performs 5,400 surgeries every year and till date operated over 1, 51,200 patients over the period of last 28 years.

Presently, he is the owner of Genesis Group of Companies:
Genesis Hospital, Genesis Institute of Management & Technology, Genesis Eduventure, Genesis Educational and Charitable Trust along with a Film and Music Production House Orion Production & Communications Pvt. Ltd.​

He has produced 5 Bengali feature films (Jodi Ekdin, Chaplin, Dutta vs Dutta, Glamour & Tanzil) along with several CSR films, Corporate and Documentary films and over 80 musical albums with 600 tracks available in Amazon & Flipkart and received the Global Indian Music Academy Awards (GIMA) in the year 2012.

Apart from the above mentioned, he has given lectures on several interesting topics in almost all the major Schools, Colleges and Universities in West Bengal and other places like Manipur, Assam, Siliguri, Puducherry, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangladesh guiding, mentoring and paving the path for the younger generation. He also teaches students Human Physiology for entrance examinations and Laparoscopic Surgery to PG students in medical colleges & universities.​

His love for his three children has drived him to write an inspirational book on “Fatherhood” named “My Name is Dad”. He has also taken up the responsibility of 200 tiger victim families in Sundarbans which includes widowed women and fatherless children providing them with food, clothing, healthcare and educational support. He has also taken up the responsibility to train and give educational and healthcare support to 20 special kids who are hearing and speaking impaired. For the month of August, 2019, GECT has taken a revolutionary pledge to distribute free plant saplings to all the students from various schools, in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Dr. Roy has also pledged to create awareness in the fields of healthcare and education through his YouTube channel from the month of September 2019 till date.

A tribute to my MA and to all mothers on Mother's Day. The love bestowed on me by my mother has made me the man, I am today.

Being a mother is the best gift to a woman, and that I see through the eyes of my proud mother who says, " My son is a good human being and the best surgeon " it brings tears of joy into my eyes and how I wish my dad was alive today (Late Dr. Prabhat Kumar Roy).

I am blessed to serve 200 tiger victim widows of Sundarbans with their daily necessities of life and making them self-sustained but there are 800 more widows who require help and sustenance.

During this LOCKDOWN period, these tiger victim widowed women need help with their day to day requirements of food and medicines as they are literally dying of HUNGER & STARVATION.
