Male Philippine magpie-robin song (Copsychus mindanensis)

This small but beautiful passerine bird belong in the wild (as all birds do), but as with so many song birds end up in cages in many parts of the world.

I for one do not agree with holding wild birds in cages but instead we should put more effort into preserving and increasing birds / mammals / insects habitat all over the world.

Globally, birds continue to decline. 159 species of bird are now Extinct and lost forever. Three bird species were added to this devastating list in 2019 alone. The 3 birds that was declared exiting in 2019 was:
Alagoas foliage-gleaner (Philydor novaesi) - Brazil
Cryptic treehunter (Cichlocolaptes mazarbarnetti) - Brazil
Poo-uli (Melamprosops phaeosoma) - Hawaii

Back to our bird for today, the Male Philippine magpie-robin. Yesterday I ran out of storage space and needed to do some cleaning from my hard drive. It was then I came across this clip. This is filmed behind our house close to our Mango trees. Here in the shade I often see the following bird species: The Yellow-vented bulbul, Philippine Bulbul, The Pied fantail, Zebra Doves and Long-tailed shrike. Unfortunately the sound was only recorded on the onboard microphones of the Camera instead of a good microphone. (The new microphone will have to wait - but one day I hope to have a good shotgun microphone at hand when filming these birds - but that is for another time.)

The length of this bird is 19 cm (7.5 in) long, including the long tail.
Magpie-robins breed mainly from March to July in India and January to June in south-east Asia. And during courtship the Male birds sing from high perches.

The name of this video was updated on the 14.Feb 2021 when it come to my attention that I should use the official name Philippine Magpie-robin (Copsychus mindanensis here in Cebu). I previously referred to this bird using the name it is listed under in my bird book "A Guide to the Birds of the Philippines" - Oriental Magpie-Robin).
