Frederika: "I was born in Bulgaria shortly after the Fall of Communism and moved to the UK in 2013. Music has been the one true passion in my life ever since I was a kid and my main drive in DJ-ing is sharing all the artists and tracks I have discovered so far, connecting them in a way they can be appreciated by everyone. After moving to London I have tried to fully immerse myself in the London music scene and my sets are inspired by all the live acts and DJs I have seen. I have cut my teeth playing at venues all around town (brilliant corners, NT’s Loft, Jumbi, The Tent (at the End of the Universe), Spiritland), guested at various radio stations (mostly NTS and Worldwide FM), co-founded a reissue label Discs of Fun and Love and currently working for Tropic of Love, a label releasing new music. During the pandemic, I also got a Fender bass and have been learning how to play it since which has inspired me further musically and my sets have become heavy with catchy basslines. Music has helped me connect to people and the world around me when everything else has failed and it’s the one thing that always brings me joy and makes me feel alive.

In my mix for MAJ, I tried to recreate a set I recorded randomly years ago that my Bulgarian friends loved, adding some new songs to it. It alternates between lesser-known jazz and boogie mainly from Bulgaria’s communist era."
