Precision Pin Grinding and Sharpening: From Rough to Refined

Описание к видео Precision Pin Grinding and Sharpening: From Rough to Refined

Hey everyone! In this video, I’m showing you how to transform a pin like this into a finely sharpened tool. This process involves two main steps using a grinding wheel and a rotary tool.

I’ll be using:

A grinding wheel with a diamond abrasive attached to a benchtop grinder.
A Proxxon rotary tool with a collet to handle the pin-sized shaft.

In the first step, I use the grinding wheel to remove the head of the pin. Once that’s done, I flip the pin around and grind the taper. Precision is key here, as I need to align the pin carefully to avoid taking too much material off or creating a wobble.

After grinding, I use Emery cloth to clean up the marks and refine the pin’s shape. It’s important to adjust the angle of the paper carefully to avoid damaging the pin’s sharp tip.

Next, I examine the results under a microscope:

The original pin used in the first video.
The pin right after grinding.
The pin after sanding.
A raw pin taken directly from the drawer.

From this comparison, you can see the improvements and also the wear and tear on the pins used in previous projects. I also test the sharpened pin by piercing an aluminum pop can and note the effectiveness of the sharpened tip.

Thanks for watching! I hope you find this process as interesting as I do. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more videos. See you next time!
