Uganda has opened talks with the African Development Bank and the International Finance Corporation to restructure and refinance Bujagali hydropower plant's loans. AfDB and IFC now have to persuade the lenders who loaned Bujagali Energy Limited money to build the plant to adjust the repayment period. The lenders are also expected to find financiers who will advance Uganda the money at interest rates lower than those at which BEL got its loans at to repay the banks. The outstanding loan balance of the project, as of April 2017, was reportedly $478 million
Some of the financiers of the plant are the Netherlands Development Finance Company, the International Finance Corporation and Group Agence Française Développement's Proparco.
